The Day I Stumbled Into the Stationery Industry

A year ago, I didn't even know what went on a wedding invitation.  I was staying with my parents while trying to figure out my living arrangements after being forced to leave my apartment due to mold issues.  I was discouraged and uncertain, when I read a Facebook post about someone needing an emergency wedding stationery suite designed for a styled shoot less than 48 hours away.  I thought, sure, I could do what they needed. I mean, I knew watercolor and lettering and had been admiring wedding stationery on Instagram for months.  Why not me?

I literally googled "What goes on a wedding invitation?" and designed one that fit thematically with the visual details needed.  Less than 2 days later, I was walking into my first styled shoot.  Shoot, I didn't even know what a styled shoot was. I seriously thought Pinterest was filled with magazine worthy weddings and everything I saw actually happened for someone in real life.

I felt like I stepped inside a real-life Pinterest board.  A very sweltering Pinterest board.  Shooting in a beautiful venue in North Florida in mid July that had a greenhouse effect and was open air brought "swooning" back to its Victorian roots.

I literally walked into the space shaking I was so nervous.  I just prayed my little contribution didn't ruin their chances on publication.  I had no idea if what I did was on par with expectations or not.  So the incredible reception it received was STUNNING to me.  Little did I know, I just stumbled into what was going to be a dream coming true.  And friendships I hope will be there for years to come.

Let me encourage you... if you haven't found your dream yet, keep searching.  Keep knocking, keep asking, keep going.  You never know when a small yes can open big doors.

I am so excited to officially introduce Watercolor + Whimsy Paper Co. to the world and see where this beautiful adventure unfolds. (Unfolds... get it? Sorry I couldn't resist!)  And I'm so happy to have each and every one of you be a part of it!
